We cannot stress enough how crucial it is to practice proper aftercare with your new tattoo(s) so that they heal well and look the best! The following are our professional recommendations on how to take care of your fresh tattoo.
Leave the bandage on for 2-3 days. Then, wash your hands and carefully remove the bandage under lukewarm water. Keep in mind throughout this process that patience and gentleness are key when it comes to healing your new tattoo! Using your fingertips (not your nails), gently wash the tattoo with COOL or COLD water and mild antibacterial soap. We recommend SoftSoap or Dial. Then, with a dry and clean paper towel, gently pat your tattoo down and let it air dry. DO NOT SCRUB YOUR TATTOO.
Do not start your lotioning regimen for 24 hours after you remove your bandages. During the first couple of days, a scab may start to form over your new tattoo; this is a natural part of the healing process and needs its time to heal. Carefully apply a thin layer of either Fragrance-Free Lubriderm lotion or Aquaphor Ointment 3-4 times daily until all the flaking, peeling, and scabbing have naturally fallen off. Please be patient; this process usually takes approximately 2-3 weeks.
